ACQUILUNIO
The exhibition originates from a direct engagement with the work of Bobo Marescalchi on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his passing, developed during a research residency at the AAM under the guidance of TAB – Take Away Bibliographies, within “Uno, qualcuno, chicchessia: sulle tracce di Andrea Marescalchi”, a project dedicated to enhancing the archive.

Two new site-specific works by Caprioli engage in dialogue with two of Marescalchi’s works, together establishing a visual conversation about time and the continuity of gestures.

Curated by Valeria D’Ambrosio, in collaboration with Museo Sant’Orsola.

For young Marescalchi, this period laid the foundations of his visual language; even then, he found a little corner everywhere where he could work: "All he needed was a small table," with inks, pencils, and brushes always in his pocket.

Marescalchi's research develops an increasing interest in the replicability of his work, leading him to an approach to lightness that is evident both in concept and in materials: thin, lightweight papers and essential strokes become distinctive hallmarks of his style.

Marescalchi's technique evolves significantly in the latter half of the decade: transitioning from free strokes and light brushwork inspired by Eastern calligraphy to a more precise and defined language, with ink at the center of the composition. This medium enables him to highlight the delicacy and elegance of the mark, while simultaneously maintaining a structural rigor.

Islands and mountains become central elements in Marescalchi's work, but only when linked to specific human experiences. In these years, with his technique now refined, even the numbers become more precise, consolidating their role within his visual language.

In the final years of his life, Marescalchi experienced a shift in perspective that concerned not so much the subjects, but rather the corporeality of the objects depicted. His attention to the natural world intensified, fueled by a deep interest in the zoological symbolism present in cultures and literature.
