1970 / Young Bobo

1970

As analyzed in the young Bobo of the 1970s (from the age of 16 to 26), and from the words of those who knew him throughout his life, as well as the students who studied his work, some recurring themes emerge during these years, such as: self-portraits, open spaces, animals, arrows, stars, numbers, geometric elements, and lettering. For the young Andrea "Bobo" Marescalchi, who already then found a little corner to work in everywhere: "All he needed was a small table," recalls a friend.

With inks, pencils, and brushes always in his pocket, he found in his drawings a moment of almost meditative concentration. He was an attentive and tireless observer, capable of translating into images what struck him, often becoming attached to a subject and replicating it. This period laid the foundations for his visual language, with themes and motifs – such as numbers and stars – that would become constants throughout his artistic journey.
